Is a conservation project for you?

Many people choose a conservation project overseas or in the UK as part of their gap year, summer break or career break.

Many people now want to take part in voluntary conservation projects as part of their gap year, summer break or career break. There are thousands of conservation project opportunities out there so the first thing you need to decide is what type of conservation work you would like to do.

You don’t have to do a conservation project for a full year. Most gap year conservation organisations run voluntary conservation projects from a few weeks to a few months.

If you want to volunteer to work on a conservation project firstly see what the different gap year organisations have on offer. They run conservation projects in Africa, Asia, Central and South America and other areas worldwide. You might be helping to monitor and protect wild animals as part of a wildlife project, carry out marine research, saving endangered coral reefs or working on a safari game reserve!

Lots of gap year organisations can organise voluntary conservation work for you. They will of course charge a fee for organising your conservation project, but this usually includes your flight and their experience will help you get the conservation job of your dreams.

Go to the Gapwork Conservation Page to see what you can do on your gap year.
