Working holidays abroad on your gap year don't have to mean glass collecting, bar work or fruit picking. If you have any sales experience or time working in an office, use your skills to register with a temporary job agency when you arrive in Australia.  Sales skills, learnt on a weekend job at Tesco or Marks and Spencer; the ability to type, use Microsoft Office or even just answering the telephone are all useful skills which can get you temporary office jobs in Australia.

At Christmas and New Year there are considerably less office temping jobs available in Australia - offices close for the holidays and businesses are winding down.  A better time of year is around May and June, when the tax year is ending and businesses are doing a lot of bookwork. 

Working Holiday Visas often restrict the amount of time you can work with any one employer and you are unlikely to appeal to many employers looking for long term staff - so Temping agencies are your best bet.
