Work on a Ranch in the American West
30th of April 2009
Summer season jobs available on a Dude Ranch in Colorado
You'll need to contact an organisation for help with obtaining a working Visa (see below) but if you are successful and looking for extra work, maybe a Summer seasonal job on a Colorado guest ranch would suit you as part of your gap year or working holiday in the USA.
The Home Ranch is located in the breathtaking Elk River Valley in Colorado and each year from mid May they employ Summer season staff to help with guests and the running of the Ranch. You must be 18 and hold a visa to work in the United States to apply but international applicants are welcome. Preference is given to applicants that can work the entire season from mid-May to mid-October. Seasonal Summer jobs available each year include: maintenance and office staff; hiking guides; housekeeping and waiting staff; kitchen staff. Applications are accepted by post only and forms can be printed from their website. If you have a working visa - perhaps you've spent some time on your gap year in the USA working with a sponsoring organisation and are looking for another position - then a Summer in Colorado could be waiting for you.

Gapwork Gap Year Jobs Tips: USA Working Holiday Visa
In order to work a summer or a gap year in the United States, it is necessary for international applicants to be students and to have either a J-1 Exchange Visitors' Visa or an F-1 Visa. The J-1 allows for students' cultural exchange for work and travel, the F-1 allows for practical training. Getting a visa to work in America on your own is a real hassle but there are organisations that will help you through the application process - see our sections on Jobs in the USA and Destination USA for details of companies who will help you.
