African Adventures Available Now

26th of June 2009

Extra places are available on Oasis Overland's October Cairo to Cape Town Expedition

Despite the economic downturn, Oasis Overland’s adventure trips to Africa continue to be in high demand.  With two trucks currently venturing north across the continent, Oasis Overland have again made an additional truck available, this time on their southbound Cairo to Cape Town Expedition in October.

The expedition sets off from Cairo on 16th October 2009, taking in Egypt’s Pyramids and the Valley of the Kings before crossing the Sahara Desert and Lake Nasser into Sudan for more pyramids, whirling dervishes, camel markets and wonderful Sudanese hospitality.  From the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela in Ethiopia, the trip enters Kenya, diverting to Uganda’s highlands for a chance to see the rare Mountain Gorillas before continuing south to Tanzania’s savannah grasslands.  Journeying to Zanzibar Island, Lake Malawi, Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta, the expedition draws to an end in Namibia’s Etosha National Park, the highest sand dunes in the world in the Namib Desert and along the west coast of South Africa to culminate in the city of Cape Town.

The two trucks will journey separately so participants can avoid travelling in a large group.  Oasis Overland’s expedition vehicles are custom built in the UK, with coach seats and lockers inside as well as storage for water, food and equipment.  A driver and tour leader accompany the trip and everyone in the group takes part in day to day tasks such as shopping in local markets, cooking over the campfire or collecting firewood.  Accommodation is camping with sites ranging from well managed with hot showers and a bar, to free camping in the bush with warm beer and maybe a bucket of water.  All part of the adventure!

Along the way, travellers can go white water rafting on the Nile, see the Okavango Delta from a dug-out canoe, bungee jump over the Zambezi, visit a Maasai village, fly in a balloon over Luxor or feed a giraffe in Kenya – all optional and only a few of awesome experiences available in Africa.

The Cairo to Cape Town Expedition costs £1750 plus £790 local payment.  It’s also possible to do the trip in reverse or to do shorter sections, for example Cairo to Nairobi.

Oasis Overland provide adventure overland trips and expeditions ranging from 2 to 40 weeks in Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East and have been operating for 12 years.
