Grape Picking in France
10th of June 2008
Harvesters needed for September
Grape picking in France still captures the imagination, and with good reason: the wine producing areas are among the most beautiful and romantic of France. Every year vineyards in France employ EU citizens to help with the harvest - a typical harvest lasts between 7 and 18 days. If you like the idea of spending a few weeks of your gap year or student summer holiday experiencing the wine regions of France through a grape picking job then Appellation Contrôlée can help.
Appellation Contrôlée can put you in touch with vineyards and help get you work during the harvest - they visit each vineyard personally, find the job to suit you and make all the arrangements on your behalf. There's a fee to sign up with them.

Gapwork Gap Year Jobs Tips: Harvesting Work
Most employers will only consider you for harvesting work on a gap year or working holiday abroad if you are 18 or over and physically fit - harvesting jobs usually involve long hours in strength sapping sunshine. Many farms will provide on site accommodation or transfers to and from the farm from local hostels. Harvesting jobs are ideal if you are planning to visit an area for just a few weeks - it's doubtful that you would really want to, or have the fitness to do harvesting work for any longer than a few weeks anyway - as farmers usually expect a high turnover of employees during any one season.
