“I set up Greenforce with an old Land Rover and a couple of volunteers following the Congo conflict. Rebels were coming across the border killing the wildlife for food.”

“We quickly realised that finding an alternate food supply was the only way to protect the wildlife. From this small beginning Greenforce has grown to help create a balanced environment for both the indigenous people and the surrounding wildlife. Combining scientific research with practical solutions, we aim to create a complete biodiversity management plan.”

Marcus Watts, founder of GreenFORCE.

Marcus has been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society. He has also been elected Chairman of the Year Out Group, that encourages and regulates overseas volunteering.
The principles of GreenFORCE came from the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The first global recognition of the urgent need to preserve the diversity of life on earth. 168 countries undertoke to impliment bio diversity surveys of their "at risk" regions. Section 3c states that “if the host country does not have the resource to undertake this work then an international aid organization would be invited in by the host country”. GreenFORCE is one of those organisations.

A member of the IUCN – World Conservation Union. An NGO in our host counties. Multiple award winner, both in country and internationally, GreenFORCE only works at the invitation of the host country, in partnership with the local people to create a sustainable and bio-diverse future.
