Earn Money Instructing Kids to Ski in Whistler and qualify as an Instructor.
Oyster Worldwide is a specialist gap year organisation that can help you find a rewarding job on the ski slopes of Whistler Blackcomb where you can also gain your Ski Instructor Qualifications.
They have been sending people to work at the Whistler Ski School for over 6 six years. Whistler is their most popular destination with over 50 people being chosen this year. Their service provides you with;
A Fantastic Job: Due to their connections Oyster can find and offer you jobs that other UK residents would struggle to find. Most of Oysters participants in Whistler start off working on the nursery slopes with the first time skiers. For this job, applicants need to be experienced skiers, enjoy working with kids and have the experience to back it up (more than just babysitting).
Participants get a season ski pass with their job so they can improve their own skiing during time off. You can also work towards completing your Level 1 Ski Instructor Qualification. As you will be working for a ski school, you get this at a significantly reduced rate (£250 for the 09/10 season).
Once you are a qualified ski instructor you can then take more experienced kids further up the mountain and be skiing all day long.
For those that want to experience all that Whistler has to offer but do not have the relevant sk ills for working in the ski school, Oyster also have jobs available in Food and Beverage outlets at the resort.
Group Departures: You go out to Whistler as part of a group, in late November, which makes the experience more supportive, friendly and pleasurable. Oyster organizes your accommodation for you so that you can be sure you have a bed when you arrive!
Informal interview and Briefing: An informative and relaxed two hour interactive session where you will find out about your destination and they will assess your suitability.
UK briefing day: A chance to meet with your group and find out more about Canada and your placement. The day is informative and very sociable. Over the past few years, they have been fortunate enough to have one of the Managers from Whistler attend the briefing day to meet the group.
Help and advice from their UK office: Their small team will support you before departure and whilst in Canada. Work permit documentation and liaison with Canadian High Commission is taken care of.
Flights: On a scheduled flight (British Airways or Air Canada) with flexible return dates. Arrangement of transportation to your placement.
Assistance and support from their representative: Oyster employs Tory who has dual nationality and lived in Whistler for a number of years. Tory is there to be a helpful friend to you and offer support throughout your 5 months in Whistler. Tory runs a first class orientation when you first arrive and hosts monthly ‘meet-ups’ for the Oyster group.
Prices start from £2545 (includes flights) for the 2010/11 winter season.
