South East Asia

South East Asia is made up of some of the most popular destination countries for backpackers and gap year travellers. Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Laos all have magical cultures and beautiful landscapes which have attracted westerners for centuries. There are many volunteering opportunities in these destinations for those on a year out looking to do something that contributes to a developing country, and you can also teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) while you are there if English is your mother tongue. The organisations on this page offer specific voluntary placements and activities in countries in South East Asia.

There are so many great things to do in South East Asia, whether it's joining an amazing expedition, taking part in a life changing voluntary programme or just exploring the tropical rainforests and gorgeous beaches of the region.

We've picked out some of the best.

The Rainforests and Wildlife of Borneo in Malaysia

Borneo is famous for its wildlife and jungles, in particular Orang- utans, its diverse colourful cultures, marine life, national parks, as well as Sabah's famous Mount Kinabalu. Many organisations run placements in Borneo, helping the region preserve the rainforest and wildlife it supports.

Discover the exotic locations of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam

No trip to Southeast Asia is complete without a visit to the famous, bustling city of Bangkok. A visit to Cambodia to see the fabulous temples at Angkor, considered to be the most spectacular architectural ruins on earth, is not to be missed. Whilst you're in the region, why not take in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and visit the War Remnants museum.

Volunteer in the Region

There are a variety of voluntary placements available for young people in Southeast Asia.
