Ski Work in Australia

Ski Work in Australia? Surely not! Well, there are plenty of ski resorts in Australia that are looking for workers over the winter season.

New South Wales and Victoria have got the majority of the ski resorts in Australia, and it's here that many people head looking for ski work. It's also worth checking out Tasmania, although the resorts are smaller and the snow is less reliable - it's well worth having a look though, as Tasmania is one of the most stunning destinations on the planet.

It's definitely cheaper to ski in Australia, although the resorts are smaller. Because they are smaller there are less jobs around, but with a bit of persistence you should be able to find something. The Australian Winter is our Summer, with the season running from June through to October.

The kind of jobs available during the ski season include lift operators, janitors, bar and restaurant staff, guest services, equipment rental and repair, day care, ticket checking, parking attendants, cashiers, retail staff, room attendants and, of course, ski and snowboard instructors.

Most positions require you to have some experience in the relevant field - whether it’s just customer services or catering. If you want to work as a ski or snowboard instructor, you will need to have the relevant qualifications.

The largest ski resorts are the places where you are most likely to find work. As an employee of one of the big resorts you can expect to have low pay and shared accommodation. However, you can also expect a discount on ski passes, subsidised accommodation and food, as well as an active social life! So if you are there for the love of the snow, rather than the need to earn lots of money, you'll be fine.

BUNAC placements allow you to pretty much choose the kind of work you want to do. BUNAC suggest that you work for more than one employer at the same time - just don't stay in the same job for more than three months.

Many people who go on a BUNAC placement sort out their work before they go - and that could be a job in one of Australia's ski resorts.
