Living and Working in Shanghai? Find Cheap Long-term Accommodation

Wednesday 20th July 2011

Find a cheap hostel in Shanghai, China, for your gap year trip

For anyone needing long-term accommodation in Shanghai, a hostel can be a great solution. Travelling alone or moving abroad for a period of time can be a daunting experience but hostels are sociable places. Opt for a hotel or a private apartment and you might feel rather isolated.

Aside from the cheap room rate, you also get great value for money staying at a hostel in Shanghai. Self-catering facilities mean you can pack your own lunches and prepare meals or a breakfast for yourself. To stay in touch with friends and family back home, look out for hostels that provide free Wi-Fi access - ideal if you are travelling with a laptop – or internet kiosks with a free or cheap hourly rate.

An onsite bar may or may not suit you. If you are looking for peace and quiet, make sure the hostel doesn’t host nightly events. However, if you are looking to socialise, a hostel bar is a great place to start a night out, meet fellow travellers and enjoy cheap drink deals. After a day at work, relaxing will be important so find a hostel with a lounge, games room, book exchange, TV room or DVD rental.

Keeping your possessions safe should be a priority so make if you are staying in a dorm room that the hostel provides you with a private locker.
