Cool Things to do in The Middle East and India

Unmissable experiences to check out on a Middle Eastern gap year.

Where do we start? In the Middle East you have the noise of the souks in the crowded cities or the quiet of the open deserts; the majesty of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the history of Egypt and the culture shock of Saudi Arabia.

In India you can immerse yourself in the colour (and smells!) of the region whilst exploring the ancient temples; the awe-inspiring beauty of the Taj Mahal at sunset and the dirt and life of the bustling cities.

India's Holy Places

The major religion in India is Hinduism, one of the world's oldest religions. Hinduism affects many aspects of life in India, from food and clothes to architecture. To really discover India, we recommend visiting some of the Holy Places such as the ancient city of Varanasi or the brilliantly named city of Bhubaneshwar, meaning the "abode of God" or "master of the universe". Sounds like a place to visit to us!

The cities of the Middle East

A visit to the Middle East should take in some of the worlds oldest and fastest growing cities. In the United Arab Emirates, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are emerging as playgrounds for the rich and popular tourist destinations; Damascus in Syria is the oldest inhabited city in the world; Jerusalem in Israel is unmissable for obvious reasons and then there's the beauty of the Sinai Peninsula and the gorgeous depths of the Red Sea. And we haven't even mentioned Egypt!

Volunteer in the Region

There are a variety of voluntary placements available for young people in the Middle East and India.
