Ten things you probably didn't know about Middle Eastern culture.
Five things you probably didn't know about the Middle East: - The only one of the Seven Wonders of the World that still survives is The Great Pyramid of Giza. You probably knew that, but we bet you didn't know that it's made up of about 2,500,000 stones weighing between 2-70 tons each. Ha!
- The longest river in the world is the Nile (4000 miles).
- Saudi Arabia is the only country named after its ruling family.
- The Dead Sea in Israel is the lowest body of water on Earth, at 1,315 feet below sea level at its lowest point.
- Albert Einstein was offered the Presidency of Israel in 1952. We think this is true, but we can't quite beleive it!
Five things you probably didn't know about India (unless you watched Goodness Gracious Me!): - India is the world's largest, oldest, continuous civilization.
- India hasn't invaded another country in 10,000 years of history.
- The four religions born in India: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, are followed by 25% of the world's population.
- Chess (Shataranja or AshtaPada) was invented in India ... see why we couldn't call it "interesting facts"!
- Algebra, trigonometry and calculus came from India .. so they have alot to answer for really!
