Summer job in Spain

Finding a summer job in Spain wasn't as easy as I thought. First of all where to start? I didn't really mind what I did as a summer job, I just wanted to work in Spain for a while. I like the weather and I've been there on holiday loads. Also I like the nightlife, and I knew that I wanted a summer job that would mean lots of socialising, fun and just something completely different to the usual boring summer job in a pub here in the UK. Its really important to contact bars and clubs at the right time of year. Bars and clubs will start advertising their summer jobs as early as the new year, so I waited until February before I started looking for work in Spain properly. I don't speak much Spanish, but I am willing to learn, and I did study some at home. I sent a CV to lots of bars and clubs in Spain, and a covering letter saying I would be available from early in the year to September, when I start university. My summer job in Spain plans didn't come to much though, I didn't hear back from a lot of the bars, and those that I did hear back from all said they would need to see me in interview. Anyway, I saved up enough cash to last me a few weeks, (working in a pub here in the UK), and then got a cheapflight to Malaga. I had the contacts of those places that had got back to me, so I basically traipsed round all of them and pestered them until one felt sorry for me and offered me a job handing out flyers. The pay was rubbish, but I got accommodation and some meals included, and had a fantastic time. I ended up helping out behind the bar and bottle collecting, but to be honest after 8 weeks my summer job in Spain had really come to a natural end. I was totally exhausted by the bar work and skint, so was relieved to get home! Working a summer season in Spain isn't easy. You need to have lots of energy and be able to look after yourself. In June there are loads of people around looking for work, so competition is stiff. I'm glad I did it though, and felt like I had achieved a lot all by myself during my Spanish working holiday.
