Driving and Getting Around South America

Tips and website links to help you get around on your South American adventure.

We don’t recommend driving as your mode of transport in South America – it can be a bit risky. Buses form the primary form of transport and services can be surprisingly comfortable and value for money on long haul trips.

There are also several reputable tour companies that can transport you around major sites too:-

Footloose

South American Experience

Budget Expeditions

Encounter

... and they all offer tours around South America.

In larger countries such as Brazil, flights aren’t cheap but can save days of laborious bus journeys.

As with any country, we would advise you to keep your valuable belongings with you at all times whilst travelling.
