A Level Results - Your Date With Destiny!
Well, the a-level results will be in soon and some of you will be happy, and some of you will be disappointed. If you got more or less than you wanted, then you’ll most likely be headed into the UCAS clearing process. The annual scramble for university places is underway – and if you’re looking for help and advice on what to do now, then you’ve come to the right place!
First of all, you are probably here because the following applies to you:
- You have not got the exam grades that you expected and can’t get onto the university course you wanted
- You have got higher exam results than you expected, and now you’re not sure what to do at University.
Here is what to do if you still want to go uni this year:
- Call the UCAS helpline - visit their website fo more info, or one of the many other clearing helplines that are set up at the time (the BBC is one alternative)
- Fill in the UCAS clearing form when you receive it
- Find out which unis still have places available on courses you’re interested in
- Send the university your clearing form if they ask for it
- Tell UCAS when you’ve been accepted, and what course you’re doing.
...and here are some alternatives:
This is an important time – not getting the a-level results you expected means a change in plans. Whether that just means a different course or a different uni, or whether it means abandoning going to uni all together or just deferring entry for a year, there’s a lot of things to take into account.
Whether you’re deferring entry to university or abandoning going onto higher education, one of the best things that you could do with the next few months of your life is to take a gap year. As we never get bored of telling people, a gap year is not just an excuse for putting off working and for lolling around on beaches spending your parents money!
A gap year is a great option for you, particularily if you’ve decided not to go onto university – the job market is a competitive one, and anyone who has used the time after they finish school to build on their skills and experience will only make themselves more attractive to employers.
If you’ve decided that you do want to carry on in higher education, but that you are going to defer entry for a year, then doing something worthwhile in your gap year is vital. This is where this website comes in. If you are thinking about taking a year out, make sure you plan your time effectively - take a look at the different sections of this website - there our four main areas:
- Where do you want to go?
- What do you want to do?
- Find yourself a job abroad or in the UK
- Make sure you plan everything - you'll be away for some time!
There are loads of options open to you if you feel like taking a gap year. From working in the UK to working abroad from volunteering across the world or to using your sporting talents to get a qualification or to help others, we hope our site will give you the facts and put you in touch with the top companies.
We hope you have a great year!
